Sean Martindale - FREE | installation

Canadian artist Sean Martindale created this interesting outdoor installation located in Grange Park,

 Toronto. In 24hrs, Sean used 21,633 feet of salvaged nylon string to write the word "FREE" between 

two parallel chain link fences. Sean explains "The word FREE refers to the public aspect of my projects, 

where I create work experienced primarily by accidental audiences.I outlined the word FREE by tying 

strings within and through the properties of the barrier / constraining structure of the chainlink fence." 

This installation is a beautiful inspirational surprise in an unexpected place.

To alert their community about the possible dangers and privacy violations from Google Street View, artists Ben Kinsley and Robin Hewlett, invited to display their work in Manipulating Reality exhibition in Florence, organized several stunts and performances for the internet's giant capture vehicle. National public transport company De Lijn wanted to announce its increased night schedule. We used existing event posters to promote the night bus and placed passe-partouts over it that read: "whatever you're planning tonight, plan your transport too. Take the night bus".

Paris by Google Street View | Michael Wolf | photography

Noted at the excellent thingsmagazine.net is a new project from photographer Michael Wolf, who navigated his way through Google's Street View map of Paris to create some beautiful images of the city...

Those familiar with Street View will know that in addition to capturing the topography of a city at street level, the programme also, inevitably, captures its inhabitants. With their circular, air-brushed faces, the majority of the figures digitised for Street View are largely unaware of the Google cars with their rooftop cameras.

Now the inhabitants of Paris also find themselves in Wolf's artistic take on the Google mapping project. And he's retrieved some lovely moments of people and things caught for a single arbitrary moment on a particular day in the city.

By way of an explantion of his intentions with the Paris Street View project, thingsmagazine offers this quote from Wolf:

"The problem is that compared to Asia, Paris is a stagnant city – very little has changed architecturally since Atget's times, and the cliches are a nightmare to get out from under of. Strangely enough, it was Google Street View which enabled me to take any photos at all of Paris.

"I spent weeks going through the city on my monitor, street by street, looking into windows, discovering reflections, searching out interesting juxtapositions, topologies, trying various crops/styles (Frank, Doisneau, Ruscha, and so on). The lack of a third dimension wore me down at times, but it was quite an interesting journey."

A Bienal Portugal Arte 2010 é uma mostra internacional de arte contemporânea que vai expor trabalhos de artistas consagrados e de jovens artistas, nacionais e internacionais, na cidade de Lisboa e no Concelho de Grândola a partir de Junho de 2010.
No âmbito da Bienal vai ser lançado o Prémio Internacional de Arte Pública, dirigido a artistas nacionais e internacionais, que vai dotar instalações da EDP com obras de arte de dimensão pública, produzidas em Portugal e com materiais portugueses por artistas, consagrados e emergentes, que se movimentam nos circuitos de Artes Plásticas e Escultura.
Apresentar ao publico português a arte contemporânea de uma forma inovadora e criativa, expondo obras em espaços, praças e avenidas em conjunto com uma programação cultural interactiva, é grande objectivo desta mostra, que já conta com a confirmação de três artistas internacionais consagrados: Chris Burden, Sterling Ruby e os Faile.

SWEATSHOPPE | video painting

In an effort to establish new platforms for public art and performance, the multimedia duo SWEATSHOPPE has developed a new interactive technology that enables them to explore the relationship between video, mark making and architecture. Dubbed "video painting", this technology allows them to essentially "paint" video onto any surface.

Em 2009 o CIN RE-MAKE mistura a cor e a música criando um novo ritmo para o olhar. Formas e sons fundem-se num ambiente que se torna único e pronto a ser descoberto. E então as formas e os sons movem-se. Muito para além do fim da linha. Até ao limite da imaginação.

Com o objectivo de promover novos talentos, este ano o desafio foi lançado aos alunos de várias faculdades de arquitectura e design do Porto e de Lisboa:

CIN RE-MAKE é a oportunidade para que os alunos deixem a sua marca na paisagem urbana. Para pintarem a música ou para sonorizarem a cor. Para terem a sua primeira exposição. Colectiva e em movimento.

A CIN une-se ao Metro de Lisboa, Carris, Metro do Porto e STCP numa parceria da qual resulta uma intervenção criativa única. Que revoluciona o espaço da cidade.

Grolsch Block Party | Bairro Alto, Lisboa - PT | 15/16oct | 5pm > 4am

Grolsch Block Party is a mini-festival hosted in a city environment by Grolsch. Grolsch started the Block Party to support independent artists and alternative music. The Grolsch Block Party gather a number of restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and clubs in a specific area and fill them with music, art and fashion. This year Block Party is scheduler in Sofia - Bulgaria, Paris - France and Lisbon - Portugal.

In Lisbon, the idea is to get everyone having a drink and collecting postcards that make you enter the big party at the Frágil, with Dj's Marfox, Silverio and Gonçalo Siopa. Associated with the Grolsch Block Party there's the launch of the Portuguese version of Vice magazine, which will be a fundamental accessory in this tour at Bairro Alto.

Meadow Fresh guerrilla TV spot at Britomart train station

This stunt was made in Britomart train station, in Auckland, New Zeland, for the Meadow Fresh enterprise, 

a milk products company, and its product Calci-Trim. About 1250m2 of grass was placed in that station 

and a TV spot was produced with people's genuine reactions. Spontaneous media happened in blogs, 

newspapers and TV news.
