International Year of Astronomy | Simon Page's posters

Starting out as a self-initiated project, Simon Page's posters for the International Year of Astronomy 09 ended up being used by the organisation and are now available to buy as prints.

Page is a self-taught UK-based graphic designer with a particular interest in geometric patterns and shapes, which may stem from his degree in Applied Mathematics. But mathematics' loss is certainly design's gain, as Page has been creating some great work over the last couple of years.

Fundada em 1998, esta orquestra familiar, que hoje compreende membros entre os 10 e os 49 anos, já passou pelos principais palcos do país, com destaque para as participações memoráveis em Paredes de Coura e no Sudoeste, passando também por festivais internacionais na Holanda e em Espanha. Partilharam, em concerto, o mesmo palco com artistas de renome do mundo do reggae.

Os MU iniciaram o seu percurso musical em 2003. Os seus elementos dedicam-se aos mais variados instrumentos provenientes dos quatro cantos do mundo, o que permite a este projecto viajar por distintas culturas e sonoridades tradicionais e de fusão. A junção de instrumentos oriundos da Índia, Suécia, Egipto, Brasil, Marrocos, Austrália, entre outros, permitiu aos MU descobrir na música uma viagem por mundos perdidos e resgatá-los até à actualidade.

Grolsch Block Party | Bairro Alto, Lisboa - PT | 15/16oct | 5pm > 4am

Grolsch Block Party is a mini-festival hosted in a city environment by Grolsch. Grolsch started the Block Party to support independent artists and alternative music. The Grolsch Block Party gather a number of restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and clubs in a specific area and fill them with music, art and fashion. This year Block Party is scheduler in Sofia - Bulgaria, Paris - France and Lisbon - Portugal.

In Lisbon, the idea is to get everyone having a drink and collecting postcards that make you enter the big party at the Frágil, with Dj's Marfox, Silverio and Gonçalo Siopa. Associated with the Grolsch Block Party there's the launch of the Portuguese version of Vice magazine, which will be a fundamental accessory in this tour at Bairro Alto.

The Design Council's slide collection has been launched online as a database featuring 4,000 images of British design from  the 1940s to the 1990s... The Design Council owns thousands of images of a vast array of products (tableware, furniture, lighting etc), engineering components and machinery, as well photoraphy that relates to architectural projects, interior  design, graphics and corporate identity. Available online through the Visual Arts Data Service (VADS).
